Voice and Audio

Choose a voice and fine‑tune how conversations feel.

Before you begin

  • Open your agent in the Babelbeez dashboard.
  • Be ready to test changes in Live Preview.

What this controls

  • Voice: the voice your visitors hear.
  • Advanced Settings (modal):
    • Voice Activity Detection (VAD): how the agent detects when you’re speaking or pausing.
    • Inactivity Timeout: how long the agent waits with no speech before ending the session.

Note: Overall reply speed is usually affected by knowledge searches (RAG) or network conditions, not by VAD.

Steps

  1. Open Configure Voice Agent from the left menu.
  2. Choose a Voice
    • Use the Voice dropdown to pick a voice that matches your brand.
    • Tip: Try a few voices in Live Preview and ask the same question to compare tone and clarity.
  3. Open Advanced Settings…
    • Click Advanced Settings… to open the modal.
    • Adjust Voice Activity Detection (VAD):
      • If the agent cuts you off mid‑sentence, lower sensitivity.
      • If the agent hesitates to respond after you stop talking, raise sensitivity.
    • Set Inactivity Timeout:
      • Increase for longer, reflective conversations.
      • Decrease for short, quick interactions.
  4. Click Save in the Advanced Settings modal.
  5. Back on the main page, click the green Save button (bottom right) to apply all changes.
  6. Test in Live Preview.

What you should see

  • The new voice is used in Live Preview.
  • Turn‑taking feels more natural as you fine‑tune VAD and the inactivity timeout.

Tips

  • Make small changes and re‑test.
  • Test in a quiet place; background noise can affect VAD.
  • If your audience is mostly on mobile, test on a phone too—microphones differ.

Troubleshooting

  • The agent cuts me off while I’m speaking
    • Lower VAD sensitivity in Advanced Settings → close → main Save.
  • The agent waits too long after I stop talking before it replies
    • Raise VAD sensitivity in Advanced Settings → close → main Save.
  • Replies feel slow to arrive
    • This is usually due to knowledge retrieval or network conditions, not VAD. Try:
      • Check that your crawl or PDF processing has completed (sources show in the Knowledge Base).
      • Ask a simple greeting to compare speed vs. a knowledge‑heavy question.
      • Re‑try on a stable connection.
  • My changes didn’t apply
    • Ensure you clicked the main Save button on the Configure page.
