Apps and App Directory

Use App Directory to connect third-party apps to your Babelbeez account, then use the Apps tab inside a voice agent’s configuration to decide which connected apps that specific agent can use.

This is a two-step setup:

  1. App Directory = account-level connection
  2. Configure → Apps = per-agent enablement and tool permissions

Before you begin

  • Your plan must include app connections.
  • During the free trial, app connections may be available for testing.
  • You need at least one voice agent selected before you can configure apps for that agent.

What App Directory does

Open App Directory from the dashboard to browse available apps and connect your account.

In App Directory, you can:

  • View available apps
  • Connect an app to your Babelbeez account
  • Disconnect an app from your Babelbeez account
  • See whether an app is currently connected

App Directory is not where you assign an app to a specific voice agent. It only manages the account-level connection.

What the Apps tab does

Open a voice agent, then go to Configure → Apps.

In the Apps tab, you can:

  • See which connected apps are available for that voice agent
  • Enable or disable an app for that specific voice agent
  • Open Configure tools to choose which tools from that app the agent is allowed to use

This means one connected app can be:

  • enabled for one voice agent
  • disabled for another
  • configured with different tool access depending on the agent

Step 1: Connect an app in App Directory

  1. Open App Directory.
  2. Find the app you want to use.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Continue to the provider’s website if prompted.
  5. Sign in and approve access.
  6. Return to Babelbeez automatically.

After a successful connection, the app becomes available to your account.

Step 2: Enable the app for a voice agent

  1. Open the voice agent you want to configure.
  2. Go to Configure → Apps.
  3. Find the connected app.
  4. Click Enable for agent.

Once enabled, that voice agent can use the app subject to its allowed tool settings.

Step 3: Configure which tools the agent may use

After enabling an app for an agent, click Configure tools.

This screen lets you explicitly choose which tools the voice agent is allowed to use from that app.

You can:

  • allow individual tools
  • block individual tools
  • use Allow all or Deny all for quick setup

This matters because some tools may be read-only, while others may perform real actions in external systems.

Role recommendations

Some apps may recommend a voice agent role when you enable them.

For example, if an app is best suited to booking, support, or another specialized workflow, Babelbeez may suggest switching the voice agent to a more suitable role.

You can choose to:

  • accept the recommended role
  • keep your current role and continue

If you disconnect an app

Disconnecting an app in App Directory removes the account-level connection.

If any voice agents were using that app, they will lose access until it is connected again.

Common confusion

“I connected the app, but my voice agent can’t use it yet.”

Connecting in App Directory only creates the account-level connection. You still need to open the voice agent and enable the app in Configure → Apps.

“I enabled the app, but it still doesn’t do anything.”

Open Configure tools and make sure the correct tools are allowed for that voice agent.

“Why do I only see already-connected apps in the Apps tab?”

The Apps tab is only for apps already connected to your account. To add a new one, go back to App Directory.

“The feature looks locked.”

Your current plan may not include app connections. If the feature is unavailable, upgrade your plan and try again.

Tips

  • Start by connecting the app in App Directory first.
  • Enable apps only for the voice agents that really need them.
  • Keep tool permissions as narrow as possible.
  • If you are testing during a free trial, make sure you verify the full flow before choosing a plan.
